April 12 - 16

This week we are focusing on 2 Journal Assignments that will take us into the next two Studio Projects!

• Monday: Introduce Face Proportions and Expressions Journal Assignments. Extra Credit Journal assignment is due!
• Tuesday: Introduce Still Life Shape Compositions Journal Assignments. Review for Sculpture Test. [View the Sculpture Power Point and review your Sculpture Terms]
• Wednesday: Sculpture Terms Test! Work on Journal Assignments.
• Thursday-Friday: Work on Journal Assignments - all are due on MONDAY, APRIL 19!

March 29 - April 2

Current Project: Repeated Paper Sculpture Motifs

Journal Project: Mark-making monotypes

• Monday: Work on paper sculpture. Journal assignment is due!
  
• Tuesday: Work on paper sculpture. Sculpture Motif notes are due with observations of your paper sculpture and the techniques you used.
• Wednesday: Introduce mark-making by viewing the video of Kseniya Simonova from Ukraine. Students will begin making their own tools for mark-making similar to her sandpainting and will plan on making their own "sandpainting" using paint and mark-making tools. Work on paper sculpture.
• Thursday: Make monotypes using mark-making tools. Complete paper sculptures.
  
• Friday: Work on paper sculpture.

Journal Assignment: Make a monotype using paint and matboard tools. The matboard can be cut to make different types of lines. Think of a story or event to depict in the monotype.

March 22 - 26

Current Project: Repeated Paper Sculpture Motifs

Journal Project: Creating Form in pencil

• Monday: Draw the morphed design for the pattern and cut it out.
  
• Tuesday: Use pattern pieces to trace around and begin cutting out from cardstock. You MUST use at least 8 and no more than 12 motifs.
• Wednesday: Critique collagraphs.
  
• Thursday: Begin arranging the motifs for your paper sculpture. Focus on creating a sense of rhythm and a path of visual movement. Journal Assignment is due!
  
• Friday: Work on paper sculpture.

Journal Assignment: On the same page, make and complete a 0-9 value scale. Then using a paper curl as a model, draw the paper curl beginning with shape first, and then adding value to give it form. Don't forget to add the negative space. Due on Friday, March 20th.

On your journal page, write down the definition of MOTIF.

Then for the following artists, DRAW only a MOTIF from one sculpture for each sculptor (you should have four drawings). Then for each motif, explain how the artist used the motif in the sculpture.

Current Project: Repeated Paper Sculpture Motifs

Journal Project: Creating Form in pencil

• Monday: Discuss progress on paper sculptures. Talk about what is working and what is not. Discuss form in 2-D and give out journal assignment.
  
• Tuesday: Critique paper sculptures and last journal entry.
• Wednesday: View sculptors work on power point and introduce rest of the lesson. Begin drawing the motifs based off the Notan project. Work on journals.
  
• Thursday: Begin cutting out the notan motifs from poster board, focusing on craftsmanship.
• Friday: Complete journal assignment and turn in.

What do you need to get done????

1. Complete your COLLAGRAPH Prints. Make sure you sign them in PENCIL - name in lower right! Here is what you need to turn in next Wednesday, 3/10...

• An EMBOSSING, no ink just impressed in the surface. (only mist THE BACK of the white paper)
• One GREAT print - ink is your choice
• One MONOPRINT - Use a 2ND GREAT Print and alter it with watercolor.

2. DUE MONDAY, 3/8. Self-Portrait Journal Entry using your EYE & BACK OF EYE BLOCK PRINT. Here's what you need to turn in (with a GREEN rubric)...

• 2 pages using a color scheme with your PRINTED BLOCK DESIGNS made through tissue paper. Complete the whole page using oil pastels and/or watercolor. Add a TITLE for your COLOR SCHEME!
• Print your BLOCK DESIGNS and then use a mirror to draw your self in PENCIL. Add value and a background.

3. Let Ms. Munson record your COLLAGRAPH SAMPLE REFLECTIONS from your JOURNAL. They were due on MONDAY, 3/1!
